Última Abundance and species composition of planktonic Ciliophora from the wastewater discharge zone in the Bahía Blanca Estuary, Argentina Iheringia, Sér. Zool. The specific composition and abundance variation of the ciliate community from a wastewater discharge zone in the Bahía Blanca estuary, Argentina, were studied all throughout a year, from June 1995 to May 1996. The polluted area exhibited high values of particulate organic matter and nutrients, particularly phosphates. Aloricate ciliates were represented by 15 species belonging to the genera Strombidium Claparède & Lachmann, 1859; Strombidinopsis Kent, 1881; Cyrtostrombidium Lynn & Gilron, 1993; Strobilidium Schewiakoff, 1983; Lohmmanniella Leegaard, 1915 and Tontonia Fauré-Fremiet, 1914. Приведены предварительные сведения о первых находках Ciliophora на глубоководном дне (глубины 120 – 240, 832, 1807 и 2075 м) Чёрного моря. Пробы взяты современными пробоотборниками 24 февраля – 10 марта 2007 г. в северо-западной и северо-восточной частях Черного моря во время рейса M72/2 MICROHAB на НИС «Метеор» (Германия). Инфузории встречены в пробах придонной воды, среди детрита и в верхнем слое осадка (0 – 1 см) во всём диапазоне исследованных глубин. Среди Ciliophora отмечены как свободноподвижные, так и прикреплённые формы, общее разнообразие – не менее 30 видов (морфотипов), размеры особей от 80 – 100 до 230 – 800 мкм. Quatro vacas lactantes canuladas no rúmen, com 155 dias em lactação, foram dispostas em um quadrado latino 4 × 4 e alimentadas, duas vezes ao dia, com silagem de milho e concentrado (relação 55:45, base matéria seca), para se avaliarem os efeitos da monensina e do óleo de soja na dieta de vacas lactantes sobre a contagem de protozoários ciliados, além de estabelecer correlações entre os protozoários com alguns parâmetros da digestão e da fermentação ruminal. Ninety rumen samples were obtained from 30 cattle (three samples per animal). The samples were subjected to one of three treatments at the moment of collection: 1) fixation informalin without straining(control treatment), 2) straining before fixation informalin, or 3)straining after fixation informalin.To test the hypothesis of the variation in the protozoa composition in the samples, multivariate analyses with non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) were carried out. Epibiosis is a common phenomenon in marine systems. In marine environments, ciliates are among the most common organisms adopting an epibiotic habitus and nematodes have been frequently reported as their basibionts. In the present study, we report several new records of peritrich and suctorian ciliates-nematode association worldwide: from a deep-sea pockmark field in the NW Madagascar margin (Indian Ocean), from a shallow vent area in the Gulf of Naples (Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian Sea), in a MPA area in the Gulf of Trieste (Mediterranean, Adriatic Sea), from a mangrove system in French Guiana (South America, Atlantic Ocean), and from the Maldivian Archipelago. Epizoic Kerona pediculus have been found on Hydra vulgaris and on Cristatella mucedo (Bryozoa) in the same habitat. On the basis of morphological characters (using Nomarski and Scanning Electron Microscopy) specimens from the two hosts are indistinguishable. Details revealed by SEM agree with previous results from silver staining, confirming the identity of K. pediculus. The taxonomic status of this species is briefly summarised. Изложены материалы по вертикальному распределению донных Ciliophora в Чёрном море на глубинах от 120 до 2075 м. Сероводород начал регистрироваться со 160 – 170 м. Отмечено три пика обилия цилиат на глубинах 120, 160 и 240 м. Средний пик обилия приходится на глубины появления сероводорода. Кроме того, по имеющимся данным, на тех же глубинах находятся пелагические пики интенсивности бактериального хемосинтеза и продукции бактерий. Следовательно, пики обилия инфузорий можно связать со скоплениями пищи. В других меромиктических водоёмах сгущения микропланктона тоже наблюдаются в области перехода от аэробных вод к анаэробным. Наибольшее число морфотипов цилиат (8) было на глубине 240 м, в области нижнего пика обилия.
